Couples Therapy
Let’s get real. Not every relationship is healthy. But what if it could be?
Relationship dynamics & communication.
I have a crazy idea. What if — in the big conflicts, big emotions, and all the heavy stuff — a couple’s goal could be to feel closer together after it than they were before it? How would that even happen?
When I work with couples, I have no interest in taking sides. My client is the third thing in the room with the two individuals — their relationship dynamic. When we focus on that dynamic, we look objectively at whether it’s the result the couple wants. And if not, things get really clear — and honest — about how each partner contributes to the dynamic, and what might need to change.
But it’s not that easy, right? So I help couples practice the right stuff. The right words. Behaviors. Postures and gestures. Managing expectations better. Communication is key. And using my training in the Gottman method, you’ll have the opportunity to build real skills with real tools to approach conflict. You’ll have the opportunity to renew friendship with your partner, and find hope in the future of your relationship.
There’s no status quo in relationships
I learned a long time ago that there’s no status quo in relationships. You’re either moving toward one another or moving apart. It’s constant motion, and that means constant work to stay connected. Love, friendship, intimacy, and sex…these don’t happen on their own. You work at it and you build emotional muscles that help strengthen your relationship when the weight of life gets heavy.
